Angular Contact Ball Bearing

Angular Contact Ball Bearing

Angular Contact Ball Bearings is a ball bearing with raceways in the inner and outer rings that are displaced relative to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. This means that these bearings are designed to withstand combined loads, that is, radial and axial loads acting simultaneously.

Angular contact ball bearings’ axial load carrying capacity increases as the contact angle increases. The contact angle is defined as the angle between the line connecting the ball’s contact point and the raceway in the radial plane (the line perpendicular to the bearing shaft). The combined load is transmitted from one raceway to the other along the radial line.

Angular Contact Ball Bearings Types:

Three main angular contact ball-bearing designs are Single-row Angular Contact Ball Bearings, Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings, and Four Point Angular Contact Ball Bearings. Depending on the application, they can be made into different sizes and loads, from miniature ball bearings for light loads and trim components to large Angular Contact Ball Bearings.

Angular Contact Ball Bearing Arrangement Components

Here is a list of components for angular contact ball bearings to know:

  • Inner ring: The inner ring is the bearing’s interior ring. It’s the part that fits directly over the shaft.
  • Outer ring: The outer ring forms the bearing’s exterior. Since it normally doesn’t move like the inner ring, its main job is to contain and protect the internal components.
  • Raceways: The inner and outer raceway is the outer section of the inner ring and the inner section of the outer ring, usually consisting of a grooved path to ease the movement of the balls.
  • Balls: The balls spin along the raceway to reduce the movement friction in the bearing.
  • Cage: The cage is a separator within the raceway, helping to keep the balls evenly spaced.

Angular Contact Ball Bearing Advantages

Angular contact ball bearings offer many advantages over other types of bearings. Here are just a few of the benefits that they offer:

-High precision: Angular contact ball bearings are designed for high-precision applications. They can achieve extremely tight tolerances, making them ideal for instruments and other sensitive equipment.

-High speed: These bearings are also designed for high-speed applications. They can rotate at high speeds without sacrificing accuracy or reliability.

-Durable: Angular contact ball bearings are very durable and can withstand a lot of wear and tear. They have a long lifespan, even in demanding applications.

-Low maintenance: These bearings require very little maintenance and are easy to keep in good condition.

Angular Contact Ball Bearing Disadvantages

While angular contact ball bearings have many advantages, there are a few disadvantages to consider as well. One potential disadvantage is that they can be more expensive than other types of bearings. Additionally, they require more frequent maintenance and inspection than some other types of bearings. Lastly, they are not suitable for high-speed applications.

Angular Contact Ball Bearing Installation Positions

The angular contact ball bearing must be preloaded in the direction of the contact angle, as it can only handle axial loads in that direction. Angular contact ball bearings can be fitted in back-to-back, face-to-face, or tandem arrangements:

Back-to-back: Angular contact ball bearing back-to-back can accommodate both radial and axial loads in any direction. The distance between the bearing center and loading point (D) is more significant than other mounting methods; it can handle large momentary and alternating radial load forces. This mounting method is the most common (Figure 3-A).
Face-to-face: angular contact ball bearing face-to-face arrangement; through this mounting sequence, the bearing can handle radial and axial loads in either direction. However, because the distance between the bearing center and loading point (D) is smaller through this mount, momentary and alternating radial force capacity is lower (Figure 3-B).
Tandem: A tandem mount can accommodate single-direction axial and radial loads. Because both bearings receive the loads on the axis, they can handle heavy axial loads (Figure 3-C).

Angular Contact Ball Bearing Installation Precautions

1. Angular contact ball bearing installation should be performed in a dust-free and clean room. Bearings must be carefully selected. Bearing spacers must be ground. The parallelism of spacers should be controlled at 1um while maintaining the same height of the inner and outer ring spacers. the following;

2. The angular contact ball bearing should be cleaned before installation. The inner ring slope is upward during cleaning. The hand induction is flexible and there is no stagnation. After drying, put in the specified amount of oil.

3. Special tools should be used for bearing installation, and the force should be uniform. Knocking is strictly prohibited;

4. The angular contact ball bearings should be stored clean and ventilated, without corrosive gas, and the relative humidity should not exceed 65%. Long-term storage should prevent rust regularly.
